I've said it before and I'm sure I will say it again, let's get back on track with this blog!

Every time I think I am ready to tackle blogging, I find my interest leaning elsewhere to either design projects, concepts or outside personal interests. So I've made it a goal of mine to blog AT LEAST once a week with important information to help website owners and their websites. The content will be written by me personally.

In addition, I'll be bringing in content from outside sources that I've read and find useful. I'm not one to re-invent the wheel so if I find good information, I'll share it!

I'll continue to update the blog with recent project completions and hope to put forth a better effort at blogging this year. As always, you can find us on Twitter or Facebook with the latest info.

As a freelancer working from home, I try to set my schedule for Monday through Friday but find myself often times grabbing my computer and getting some work done on the weekend. This has me wondering, why do I let it happen? It's the weekend, I should be taking the time to enjoy it and stepping away from work.

Last weekend I managed to not work until late Sunday when I caught up on some e-mails and accounting work. But this weekend came along and inspiration hit and before I knew it, I had worked 4 hours last night on a new concept for a client. It helps me get a jump start ahead for the week, but instead, why didn't I just grab a book and relax on the couch or watch a movie instead?

Working Working Working

In my brief time on Twitter, it appears I am NOT the only one doing this. Freelancer or not, working on the weekends is becoming more and more common as we try to catch up or maintain levels that we are used to working. My typical work day during the week goes something like the following:

6;45-7:15am - Answer e-mails, check news, read blogs

7:30am - Head out for exercise at my local Snap Fitness

9:00am - 2:00pm - Work on project list taking occasional break

2:00pm - Break for lunch/reading blogs

2:30pm - 5:00pm - Answer Emails and work on smaller projects

Break for dinner, spending time with family, homework, etc.

8:00pm - Answer e-mails and working on small projects once kids are in bed

~11:00pm - Head to bed once I just can't keep my eyes open any longer

So looking at that schedule, I'm putting in approximately 50-55 hours of work a week Monday through Friday. So why on earth am I doing any work on the weekend too?

My answer? Not too sure why but I like working.

I find myself doing work because I enjoy being creative but more than anything I know that at the end of the day, my work is what brings money in the door. And I don't know about you, but I like money and what it affords me. I'm one to take things on when work is plentiful, getting it done as quick as possible in preparation (and hope in this economy) that the next job is just around the corner, I want to have the time and be ready for it. I might even overextend myself from time to time to be assured work is available.

But have I led myself down the wrong path? Should I instead be scheduling myself out more and sticking to the Monday through Friday work week. IGNORE (gasp) my computer on the weekends? Yeah I don't see that completely happening either.

I don't have the answers but I'm interested to hear what others have to say. Do you work the weekends? If yes, why do you? If no, how do you stop yourself from working?

And yup, it's Sunday and here I am on my computer.

I have come to realize recently that a strong majority of clients who come to me for websites already have a logo. For an extended period of time, it seemed I was always creating a new logo for a client or having a logo created by one of my graphic design partners. But times have changed and my client base has shifted. Now I have seen an upturn of clients who already have a logo and want a website built around that logo.

To that end, I have altered pricing for my Website packages, Ecommerce packages and DIY Template packages to reflect building your website without the need for a design of a new logo. The logo design will be an optional service that can be added to your package. Prices for a new logo will begin at $150.00 for 1 concept with 3 revisions.

I hope this will better meet the needs of my clients who like to know upfront their costs without having to submit for a FREE No obligation quote. As always, all clients have the option of creating my Build Your Own package for your exact needs.

So I am still finding my way with Twitter and its benefits. Today I got involved in a discussion about cancellation of a web design contract and what to expect payment wise when you have already been working on the project. The basics of the discussion involved what does your contract say in regards to cancellation. It was a thought provoking discussion that quickly grew as more and more got involved.

A worthy discussion for new and experienced designers. View some of the "tweets" (discussion) on my Twitter . Originating question was started by Andrew Turner. I discovered it thanks to my following of Freelance Switch.

In relation to that, in the midst of the discussion, I checked out various other Twitter members along with their websites. One of which gave GREAT information to a newbie such as myself. Check out this blog post on The Basics of Twitter by Joe Casabona.

I ended up following a few members in the discussion thanks to the original tweet. Worth the read and Twitter is STILL free to join.
